Recently, an Austrian manufacturing company debuted their brand new electric motorcycle that claims to offer a range of more than 124 miles on a single battery that has been completely charged. The design is a bit zany though. The design looks a bit art deco, it has received comparisons to a snail from those that have gotten a good look at it. The futuristic design certainly could potentially be a huge draw to the vehicle, but it does feature some other technological concepts that help it to stand out from the crowd.

The futuristic bike has actually been written about numerous times by a wide variety of publications. Originally, it was leaked under the name “Biiista,” but today is known as the Johammer J1. Designed by Hammerschmid Maschinenbau and the Yellow Works Studio, the motorcycle looks like a concept car – but has somehow come a lot further than most concept vehicles do.
Vehicle Designed
The chassis of the vehicle is an electric motor mounted onto the hub of the rear wheel. In itself, that is not surprising. The suspension dampers are inside of the aluminum frame, resulting in less wasted space underneath the lithium-ion battery pack. The Johammer J1 is designed to be particularly low to the ground, with the center of gravity just a foot above the ground level. The Johammer J1 looks to be an excellent bike because of its excellent build and ample room for luggage.

While typically bikes will have the rearview mirrors attached to the handlebars, the Johammer J1 actually has the handlebars connected to the oversized mirror bars. Each of the mirrors has a small 2.5 inch display that gives information about the J1’s instruments. The bike features both front and rear pegs, as well as a 57.3 inch wheelbase. The seat sits at 25.6 inches high. Altogether, the bike weighs 350 pounds at its lightest, with the larger version weighing 390 pounds.
Future Plans
The company has stated that they plan on producing two different versions of the vehicle, offering two different batteries as well. One will be able to travel 93 miles on a single charge, while the other will be able to travel 124 miles respectively. The battery itself will utilize 72V and a maximum capacity of 12.7 kWh. In addition, the bigger battery will take 3.5 hours to charge to 80%, while the smaller version of the battery is able to charge to 80% in just 2.5 hours.

The company hopes to produce a total of 50 units, available for purchase within the next year. After that, they plan to offer between 300 and 500 units per year. At it’s cheapest version, the bike will likely cost around $30,000. The larger version will cost $34,000. It provides an interesting design with futuristic features that will truly help the bike to gain interest in the general market but is it going to be enough? Of course, we can expect electric bikes to become more available in the future than what we see today. The art deco design of the Johammer J1 definitely takes the cake in terms of excellent design, usefulness, and ample space for saddlebags and storage. It will be interesting to see how the bike is received by the community and whether or not the product can gain any traction upon its commercial release.
