1. LiveWire and Kymco Partnership
To revive its market share, H-D LiveWire joined hands with Kymco, a Taiwanese powersports giant, in 2021. The collaboration between these two brands was solely to do something good in the electric motorcycle market.
It is one of LiveWire's survival strategies, and we all hope that it succeeds this time. As we have seen previously, nothing has worked for LiveWire. The sales are going down after every quarter.
2. Two New Electric Maxi Scooter Concepts Revealed by LiveWire & Kymco
After 3 years of partnership between H-D LiveWire and Kymco, both have finally revealed two new electric scooters.
2.1 The Adventure-Style LiveWire Electric Maxi Scooter Concept
Both seem like a pure urban commuter; however, one of them looks more like an Adventure Scooter with a rugged look.
The adventure-style LiveWire maxi scooter concept also has dirt-capable knobby tires, high handlebars, luggage racks, wind protection, and crash bars.
2.2 The Sports-Style LiveWire Electric Maxi Scooter Concept
The other has a sleeker and sportier look, perfect for urban commuting. Being sportier, it features a considerably flatter handlebar and road-biased tires.
3. Both Scooters Use LiveWire S2 Powertrain
To power these distinctive-looking electric scooters, both use LiveWire S2 Del Mar’s battery and motor.
Due to having a powertrain similar to the H-D LiveWire S2 Delmare, we can predict how the two new electric scooters will perform. However, the specs and power figures of both these new electric LiveWire and Kymco scooters are still unknown.
If you have ridden the LiveWire S2 Del Mar, it produces around 78.9 hp of horsepower and 261.67 Nm of torque. This isn’t what you can expect from an electric scooter.
Such power figures can make electric scooters very difficult to ride. Despite having the same powertrain, both maxi scooters are expected to be heavily tuned to make them suitable for ideal urban commuting.
Moreover, talking about the LiveWire S2 powertrain features a 10.5 kWh power pack battery, ensuring:
Average Range: 117 miles
Charging time of 5.9 hours using Level-1 charging ( 20-80% )
Charging time of 78 minutes using Level-2 charging ( 20-80% )
Even though both these electric maxi scooters are concept bikes, they look production-ready. We aren’t sure how many changes will be made to these electric scooters and when they will be introduced for purchase.
4. Will LiveWire Electric Maxi Scooters Be Able to Save the Sinking Ship?
The idea seems to be a good new chapter for H-D LiveWire, which is expected to take the company out of the dark.
Harley-Davidson LiveWire has long been trying to make a mark in the electric motorcycle market. However, the LiveWire models produced so far don’t seem to impress riders.
This is the first time LiveWire has redefined its production strategy and thought of building scooters. Scooters are among the most popular two-wheelers in the global market, particularly the Asian motorcycle market.
Electric scooters are getting more and more limelight and are on their way to becoming mainstream. So, the collaboration between LiveWire and Kymco and the introduction of electric maxi scooters can prove successful.
Initially, both companies plan to target the European market. This is mainly because e-bikes and maxi scooters are already being hit in the European market. These concepts, such as electric maxi scooters, will be released in 2026.
5. Kymco RenoNEX Powered By LiveWire S2 Platform
Kymco is also looking forward to taking advantage of this LiveWire-Kymco partnership. The company plans to introduce the Kymco RenoNEX, an electric motorcycle powered by the LiveWire S2 powertrain.
The glimpse of the Kymco RevoNEX revealed that it previously had a manual transmission and clutch, but now, it is likely to use the S2 platform.
6. Wrap-Up
Overall, it is a bold step by H-D LiveWire to partner with Kymco and introduce electric maxi scooter concepts. These electric scooters are expected to start selling in 2026. They are expected to compete with BMW in the electric urban mobility segment. Also, Honda is set to launch its electric motorcycle and scooter in 2026.
