Things could be going better for Harley-Davidson. In addition to several other financial and sales problems the company faces, its electric motorcycle brand, LiveWire, is experiencing a rough patch.
The company has recalled almost every 2024 Harley-Davidson LiweWire S2 Del Mar and Mulholland due to a faulty high-voltage fuse. Harley-Davidson LiveWire has taken notice of the issue and announced a global recall.
1. Affected 2024 Harley-Davidson LiveWire S2 Del Mar and Mulholland Recalled Due to Faulty Fuses
According to the reports, the affected H-D LiveWire S2 Del Mar and Mulholland models have some issues with their high-voltage fuse. These LiveWire electric bikes can stop anytime during the ride without warning.
Due to the faulty fuse, the motor can shut down or stall, resulting in a loss of power without showing any warning or indication to the rider on the display screen. According to many reports, the problem arises as riders accelerate the bike repeatedly.
2. The Safety Recall Report
Harley-Davidson has submitted the Part 573 Safety Recall Report, and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has also been reported regarding the issue. The company has also provided instructions to dealers worldwide on how to proceed with the recall.
The procedure for facilitating fuse replacement has also been duly conveyed to H-D dealers. The company is making sure that the recalling and servicing process stays as smooth as possible and that the owners do not face any trouble during it.
3. Harley-Davidson LiveWire’s Statement on the Issue
The problem is not considered an electric system failure. Almost every other piece of equipment considered an energy source continues to work, including the light piece of TS and ABS. As the fuse stops working, only the motor installed in the affected H-D LiveWire S2 Del Mar and Mulholland models stop working.
When the affected electric models stop working, the rider is unable to restart the bike.
The H-D LiveWire has also given its statement regarding the whole scenario:
“The high voltage fuse on certain MY24 LiveWire S2 Del Mar and MY24 S2 Mulholland model motorcycles may open under certain riding conditions, resulting in a loss of propulsion without providing prior indication to the rider. Other electrical functions (ABS braking, lighting, turn signals, etc.) will not be affected if this occurs. In this condition, electric power would not be supplied to the electric motor from the battery, illuminating warning lights on the instrument panel. Unexpected loss of propulsion while in motion without the ability to restart may increase the risk of a crash.”
Speculations may arise that the fault is related to the software in the affected 2024 LiveWire S2 models. However, it is purely a hardware-based issue.
4. How Many H-D LiveWire S2 Del Mar and Mulholland Models Are Affected?
According to the manufacturer's figures, 788 2024 LiveWire models are reported to have issues. Considering the H-D LiveWire isn’t doing great in terms of sales, this number represents a good percentage of total units sold.

5. Remedy
According to Harley-Davidson , a new high-voltage fuse will be installed on the affected LiveWire S2 models. The company has notified its dealers to wait to deliver any new LiveWire S2 motorcycles until the service is performed. However, they can make bookings and sell motorbikes.
6. A Message to LiveWire Owners
To all the H-D LiveWire S2 Del Mar and Mulholland owners, if you are riding one of the affected models, make sure to visit the dealership store. Get your faulty high-voltage fuse replaced as soon as possible. Don’t continue riding the bike, as it can be extremely dangerous in the event of sudden power loss.
7. Harley-Davidson LiveWire Continues to Disappoint
Harley-Davidson LiveWire models, particularly the S2 Del Mar, are considered the company's smartest and most innovative move. These electric bikes were Harley's response to critics who criticized the company for not doing anything out of the box. The company failed to impress young and new riders and continued to stick to its old clientele.
There is hope with the LiveWire electric motorbikes. However, at first, H-D LiveWire’s high prices were the biggest concern about their lack of sales. With repeated problems and recalls, H-D may find it difficult to sell LiveWire electric motorcycles.
Reliability is one of the major concerns of modern riders. They want to invest in a reliable motorcycle. However, with the third recall in a row, the H-D LiveWire may face a tough time ahead. In a span of almost six to seven months, Harley has announced three recalls, which is not good at all for the company’s reputation.
The H-D LiveWire S2 Del Mar was previously recalled due to a faulty powertrain soon after its launch. At the time, almost 523 units were reported to have the issue and were recalled.
