Viking Extra Secure Harley Davidson Softail Saddlebag Brackets that can be locked in order to keep your Bags safe Once the bags are off absolutely nothing is visible that even hints that bags just came off this bike. Adjustability on this system allows you to place bags where they look good. Bags can be switched between bikes with minor effort. Top Quality Construction using marine grade powder coated metal. Bags can be taken off from the bike or put back on within seconds. The Viking Harley Davidson Softail Quick detachable system comes with instruction and is easy to install. Once they are install you do not need any tools to take bags off or put them on. The Harley QDS is easily installed by removing 2 bolts from your fender and replacing with 2 of the oem bolts with Viking QDS system bolts and hardware which are also called Docking posts. The Harley quick disconnect bracket is then bolted on to your saddlebags. The docking posts are made of rust proof polished stainless steel. The brackets are completely adjustable allowing several benefits such as avoiding turn signal, Adjusting the bags position in desired area and away from passenger foot peg. This bracket keep your bags extremely safe: Simply slide the bracket on the stainless steel Docking posts and turnthe locking key and the brackets and your expensive saddlebags are safe, securely locked onto your bike. 1st time to attempt such a project . It took me two days to figure everything out. The instrucion videos are not much help. It's basically trial and error till you get it right.
Hint - take your time and don't get frustrated. You will have to try diffrent spacers and bolts untill you get everything to fit where you what it. It took me two days to get happy with the fit. I also installed a tour pack with the bags which added to the spacer trial and error process.
Hint #2 - If you are doing a tour pack and bag install together like I did . Get you tour pack brackets and spacers done first. Then work on the bag spacers. You will finish up with one bolt and a set of spacers for the trunk and bags. Match up the front and rear bolts and spacers and your good to go.
Hint #3- Before you attempt to drill holes in the bags or tour pack, make sure you have everything lined up where you want it to go. Check everything twice, then check it again. You will need a helper to set the bag and tour pack placement where you want them. Once your happy with the placement mark where the holes need to be drilled. Double check everything one more time and then drill the holes. Mount all the hardware to the bags and tour pack. Then mount them on the bike.
If you did everything correctly your done. Time for a ride!
Such an easy install! All hardware included so I didn’t have to go buy anything else, no rattle or free play, fits nice and tight and doesn’t move unless unlocked and removed!
I sprayed the stainless steel adjustable sliding mounts with some flat black engine enamel. To help blend them in with the motorcycle's esthetics. Then I drilled 3 releif holes where the locking bracket screw protrud through the bags. This prevents any warpage of the bags when detachable rails are tightened down on the bags.
Viking Bags Quick Mount rail system is a must. They installed easily and work great. I did however do some extra work to install them on my 2013 H-D Fatboy Lo. 1st I used a cutoff wheel to shorten the 4 blots that mount on the fender side rails. As not to protrude inside the fender well. 2nd I sprayed the stainless steel adjustable sliding mounts with some flat black engine enamel. To help blend them in with the motorcycle's esthetics. 3rd I drilled 3 releif holes where the locking bracket screw protrud through the bags. This prevents any warpage of the bags when detachable rails are tightened down on the bags.
Kit and install went great. Could have used a set of bolts about 1/4" shorter, but worked fine the right spacer combo (2006 Heritage, OEM fender and tire).
Bags fit perfectly and are made to look almost identical to my original Harley bags. I used the quick release mechanism also, however, the parts and pieces provide with regards to spacers didn’t work with my mounting, so made some adjustments to spacers used (old with new) and all is well.
Highly recommend these bags over much more expensive ones from Harley.
Having mechanical knowledge did help in installation. I think the only thing I would do differently is to mount the bag with three bolts first, mount the bag and bracket to bike. I think doing it that way would allow you to slide bag fore or aft for fine tuning the position. My bike has foot pads and not pegs for passenger so if I would have moved them back a bit it would clear. No big deal though, if I have a rider, remove bag and lower pad. Reinstall the bag. Works great.
Bags look great!! Difficulty with installation. Took a little time but well worth it. I think the instructions could be better. But if you are industrious you have it made!! You will need an extra pair of hands. Take care.
Overall pretty good. They do work with oem quick connect for a sissybar or other accessory such as a stand alone fender rack. For the most part an easy install. Definitely look at your oem service manual for torque values, instructions were semi-lacking. Quality of part is as expected at 10/10 and can be used with most saddlebags. In my case I actually used some old saddleman bags. Overall a good product.
I love the snug fit - no wonder the specific collar is identified for it's exact bracket! (Of course, I found that out the hard way...)

Bracket are very heavy. Don't know if that is a good thing or not. It is made in Pakistan, so I hope it lasts. I do like that it came with spacers to align the brackets, which is a plus. Also, it came with 3 different length screws to mount the brackets, which is another plus with my bike having a removeable backrest. It comes with enough bolts to mount my saddlebags to the bracket. It has 5 screws to mount to the saddle bags. 10 total. But, it only has 8 total large washers, which was a little disappointing. I had to go and buy 2 more washers. It is very sturdy, which I like a lot. I would recommend.
I enjoy the pretty low profile mounting nature of this quick disconnect system, as well as having the ability to just pop my bags off. The mount does feel very secure to the bags, however i do not like how they ask what bike it’s for when ordering, as if it’s bike specific. Its completely a universal mount and is very difficult to install correctly. They say to use the stock fender bolts but those do not fit into the mounting posts, and the supplied bolts wouldnt screw into the fender. Had to source some bolts from lowes and also, the mounting posts need to have a flat mating surface and/or be collared underneath with washers from the fender support brackets, or else the lip will bend from tightening and the quick disconnect will be impossible to put on them. Overall, its good when installed correctly but has a lot of room to improve.
Simple installation if you work with your hands and have a few tools. My only comment is that it would be much nicer if the saddlebag lock and the detachable hardware lock were keyed alike.
I'm stoked Viking came out with this! Makes removing my saddlebags quick and easy! Mounting the brackets were simple as I used the current mounting holes as a guide! I highly recommend!
