I wanted something that would actually fit my sportster without looking awkward, and the shock cutout on these bags made a big difference. They sit nicely around the shocks and don’t feel like they’re fighting for space with the bike. The metal frame and reinforced body keep the bags from sagging, even when I have them loaded up for a longer ride. The key locks are another nice touch when I’m leaving the bike parked somewhere.
Installation instructions are not good. Follow video, attach main bracket to the bike first. Take off the rear wheel at the start, then proceed as you will be able access the bolts much better and mark the bag drill holes easier as well. The 2016 883 iron blinker design is a joke. I had to make a new blinker bolt to get the bracket /hook on as the the original bolt was too short after adding the small bracket/hook. Bags are well built and I expect to utilize plenty.
This is really more like a 3.5 stars. The bags are nice no issues other than you can't tell if the bags are locked. would be very hopeful if they could place markings on the lock so tell when locked or unlocked. You can't tell if the bags are locked until to pull the Velcro loose from both ends (which is very strong and take both hands to do) only to try out the bags are still locked then you have to unlock the bags and fight the Velcro again. These bags are very stiff, so I'm not sure if you really need the Velcro at least not as much as they use. Also, the installation of the bags using the standard hardware was not easy and took two nights at over 3 hours each to install. Had to drill multiple holds in the bags and then move them around again only to have to drill more holes. The bags are still a little off but I am done with that. The instructions you might as well give them to your dog and the video was not very helpful.
Wonderful Bags!! Beautiful and functional. Incredibly difficult to install on my Sportster with the info provided. I'll get them on eventually. Hopefully today. They really are a great value bag, though. Hire a good tech to install them for you.
These bags are nicely built and look great on my Iron 883! Love the locking feature. They are spacious enough to put my jacket in. The installation was painful since the holes in the bracket did not line up with the bike L bracket that was included with the bags. There was some metal drilling needed to make it fit but my husband got it done.
Bags are awesome. But instructions on installation- but PDF and Video - are the WORST alive ever seen. Was incredibly difficult to figure out how to install with all the shims and spacers. My Harley dealer even passed on installing them!! They need to be refreshed as they were worthless. I’m an aerospace engineer and can build / install anything - this was terribly hard.
But the quality of the bags and the mounting hardware was excellent
Bags are beautiful! I had to redrill holes in mounting brackets as the shock cut outs would not fully go over the shocks. Had to move them forward about an inch. So much for bike specific. They look great now that there done!
The rear hanger bracket is not long enough to clear the tail light assembly, and doesn't match the front wire pass-through hole, so I had to fabricate my own hanger brackets out of old gate hinges with my angle grinder. Then, with the bracket in between the tail light assembly stalk and the frame shroud, the factory long bolt that passes through the tail light stalk and holds the tail light can on was no longer long enough to engage the threads in the soft cast metal light can solidly, so I had to cut down a 5/16" threaded rod and solder a square nut onto it, to replace the factory bolt, making it about 3/8" longer. That worked perfectly. (Longer than that would have touched the bare wire connectors in the back of the light bulb socket.) I used the provided 1/2" spacers and the 5/16" bolts for the front attachment, but bought some carriage bolts for the rear attachment, since the large plate bracket has a slotted hole in the rear tab. 1/2" spacer in the rear as well. I used nylon-insert flange nuts to secure each bag to the bike at the two attachment bolts. The bags look like factory accessories with this bike, I think!
I bought these bags for a 2009 Sportster iron limited edition breast cancer bike and found first the bags are a great quality; however, when it came to mounting these bags and after taking my rear tire off a few times I found I had to custom make a nut that I welded a couple of pieces of metal to the nuts on the front mount inside the fender and used jb weld to hold them in place. It is near impossible for the mounting of that nut otherwise. These bags need to be taken off for any wheel removal and even the side cover over the fuses and battery cover. I also found that these bags are exposed to damage should the bike fall over and I have considered adding some kind of extended protection from the rear pegs that I had originally removed for looks. Still not sure if it is worth it but I know if my wife drops the bike they will be damaged and the front engine guard is not enough. The other thing is the locks must have the key left in to open the bags and they cannot be removed until the bag is closed and locked, thus only one bag at a time unless you keep both keys available. I have also considered taking the tab off the lock so I do not have any locks, still not sure on this one. I also ended up using the small spacer on the front and two large and a small on each rear mount. My wife loves these bags and I believe it is the best bag for this bike considering all the options, but the installation is one pain in the ----. Removal and re-installation when required will be much easier if you do as did and make sure the inside nut on the front mount is permanently installed. Have fun
I was little hesitant at first when I ordered these bags for my 2021 iron XL883 by the reviews. But once I started getting into the install it went really well. All the bolts they provided work. The instructions aren't the greatest to be honest but it pretty straight forward how these bags are suppose to mount to your bike. Did have to do some trial and error to make them fit just right but lets base it if you're buying a Harley Davidson 883 you're buying it so you can mod the sh*t out it so you're going to need some wrenching skills and patience. I would definitely recommend these bags to anyone.
Bags are great! Love them however the install was a little more difficult than I would've expected. Instructions page was 1 paper and seemed to be vague or lacking details and/or steps. Now that they are on the bike though I'm very pleased with how they look and feel.
It’s difficult to install, like how others say. But if you got the time and patience, the bags themselves are worth it. You have to drill holes yourself in the bags, but I assume most if not all bags come like that. It was trial and error for me, but I did get them on, and I don’t regret the purchase
