Honda Rebel Saddlebag Guide
The Honda Rebel was introduced to the motorcycle world in 1985. Honda was looking to combine the reliable technology with the need for fun and reliable entry level bikes into the growing American cruiser motorcycle market. The Rebel might be marketed as an entry level bike but there is no mistaking its pure cruiser essence. The modern Honda Rebel is a sturdy 234cc four stroke twin that provides a great motorcycling experience for all riders looking for a nimble and enjoyable ride with a low price tag.
Viking Bags are the only bag manufacturer who understands the Rebel’s unique styling and addresses the challenges of adding functional storage to a smaller bike without looking out of place. Viking Bags understands the appeal of an easy to manage bike and our bags are made with the Rebel owner in mind. With the Rebel’s generous average 84mpg, we know that you’re going to ride often and, with those miles comes the need for quality storage options. Our bags are the perfect complement to the no nonsense motorcycling experience the Rebel provides.
Viking Bags feels there are 4 factors which can help you make the right bag choice for you Rebel motorcycle.
Do you like studded accessories or are you prefer a pure look? How about buckles? Would you like to have the option as to how the bag opens? Would you like them to fit over the shocks or behind?
What is your typical riding experience? How much gear and equipment will your be hauling?
We have bags that lock and bags that do not. Our locking bags come with our own innovative personal key.
Are you looking for bags that will be permanently fixed to the bike or do you want to be able to put bags on and take them off easily?
Bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The majority of our bags come in two styles, plain or studded. If your bike already has studs, you can keep the theme going by adding a pair of Studded Saddlebags. All Viking Bags studs are rust proof, polished, and stainless steel. Non-studded or Plain bags are very clean themselves and can keep the clean look throughout.
Plain VS. Studded
Honda Rebel bags come in a range of styles. Viking Bags understand the diversity of needs Rebel owners need and we have addressed that diversity with our Rebel bags. The Thor, Charger, Spear, and Warrior lines are the perfect fit for your Rebel cruiser. We offer a Shock Cut Out option for a perfectly snug fit.
Most Viking Bags give you two options, Studded or Plain. The more traditional cruiser look is complimented well with studded bags. The studs on our bags are a rustproof, polished stainless steel and will add a little flash to the classic design of your Rebel. If studs are not for you, we offer plain bags with chrome buckles that provide a more modern and contemporary look.
BUCKLE VS. NO BUCKLE
For the Rebel owners who want their bags without any shine, our Warrior and Spear bags are the storage solution you’ve been looking for. We also offer bags that are completely blacked out. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs. To compliment all the different options on the front of our bags, the backside also provides you the option of a plain back or a shock cut out back.
STANDARD BAGS VS. SHOCK CUT OUT BAGS
Our standard bags for the Rebel will be the most affordable bags available and are typically mounted between the rear shock and the rear turn signal. If you are looking for more capacity through a larger bag, it will be necessary to utilize a turn signal relocation kit to relocate your rear turn signals further back to the license plate. For our customers who need the bigger bags, the Quick Disconnect System is the ideal option because it mounts the bags outside the shocks, leaving no need for the Shock Cut Out option.
The Shock Cut Out bags have been custom molded to fit around the shock while keeping the bags tight to the bike’s fender. This option gives the bike a very custom appearance. The Shock Cut Out feature will cost you a little more over the standard back option but the look of these on your Rebel are a worthy investment. The streamlined profile of the Shock Cut Out option does sacrifice some storage space but we do offer several larger bag modes to help address this issue.
Hard VS. Soft
We also offer bags that are completely blacked out without any buckle. Take a look at our Warrior and Spear bags. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs.
At Viking Bags we offer over 200 styles and sizes of saddlebags, proving we are the largest saddlebag manufacturer in the world. From small to extra-large, we have the best option for you Rebel’s storage needs. With such a large selection, we understand that it might be difficult to get that perfect bag for your ride. We have anticipated this potential frustration and have designed our website to be as user friendly as possible. The left hand side of our webpage allows you to filter out the unwanted styles and find the bags that best fit your Rebel motorcycle.
With the Rebel’s impressive 84mpg, we understand that Rebel owners are going to be doing quite a bit of exploring. With all that riding, comes the added need for security. We at Viking Bags understand this need and offer two separate locking options. Viking Bags have the lock either on the top of the bag or under the buckle. For added security, most of our bags have the option of utilizing a padlock. The addition of our QDS system is an excellent theft deterrent because it gives you the option of taking your bags inside when you are at home. We also understand that our non-locking bags might be the best option for your pocketbook while still meeting your storage needs. If you take that route, we do recommend that you remove all valuables from the bags before settling down overnight.
Now that you have decided which bag will fit your bike better the next step is to choose the right mounting hardware.
There are 3 types of mounting hardware’s available to you and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
1- Quick Disconnect System (QDS)
2- Hard Mount Kit
3- Throw Over Kit
For customers who are looking to utilize our Quick Disconnect System (QDS), we recommend the purchase of our standard plain backed bags. The system moves the bags about 2 inches outwards which makes purchasing the Shock Cut Out bag option unnecessary. The QDS is the accessory for the travelling rider or for the Rebel owner who needs to be able to bring their bags inside for security. In addition to the added security, the QDS system makes maintenance and cleaning very easy. Another benefit of the QDS is the easy removal for those riders who don’t want to deal with bags on shorter trips.
For the rider looking to permanently mount their bags, our Hard Mount Kit, which comes standard with all bag purchases, is the ideal option. This is the sturdiest option of mounting bags to your Rebel. What you may lose some in the adaptability of our QDS system, you make up in the security that your locked bags are there to stay. With our bags locked, they are very stable and secure, giving you the peace of mind that the bags cannot be easily detached by any would be thieves. Fortunately, there are only two bolts on each side to remove if you decide you want to take them off yourself.
Throw Over bags are still one of the most popular options in saddlebags because of their ease of use and functionality. Viking Bag’s Throw Over line use a simple yoke mounted under the seat. The bags are easily strapped to the metal frame on either side of the rear fender. The Throw Over Kit is a short-term option and is the best option for Rebel owners who don’t frequently need bags or have fitment issues. In addition, the Throw Over kit is only available on our smaller bags which do not need a stiffer mount.
