Trikes are motorcycles with three-wheel configurations. There are various types of trikes depending on the arrangement of the wheels. The types of trikes include the regular, reverse, sidecar, and outrigger. This article discusses a well-known reverse trike known as the Spyder F3-S that was manufactured by the Can-Am Motorcycle Company.
The Can-Am Spyder F3-S is a three-wheeled motorcycle with two steering wheels in front and one steering wheel in the back. This forms a Y-configuration which is why this type of vehicle is known as a reverse trike.

In 2007, the first Can-Am Spyder was launched. Within eight months, Can-Am Motorcycles was able to sell almost 2,500 models. In response to such high demand, Can-Am Motorcycles started producing more Can-Am Syders. Out of the 12,500 Spyder models produced, 9,932 of them were sold in America. The Can-Am Spyder was designed for both men and women as this trike did not require vigorous control and balancing. About 21% of the Can-Am Spyders produced were purchased by female riders. Also, 27% of the Can-Am Spyders were purchased by people who never bought a motorcycle before.
The Can-Am Spyder F3-S comes with a 1,330 cc engine, capable of producing a torque of 130.1 Nm at 5,000 rpm and a horsepower of 115 hp at 7,250 rpm.
Along with high-powered specs, the Can-Am Spyder F3-S is also equipped with the latest technology to ensure the rider’s safety and unique cruiser ergonomics to give the vehicle a cool look.
The Can-Am Spyder F3 series is a sports-oriented trike. The footrests are placed forward and the seat height is low to give the a vehicle a lower center of gravity.
There was also a Can-Am Spyder model designed for law enforcement known as the Can-Am F3-P in 2015. This trike was equipped with a siren and emergency lighting.

2.1 CAN-AM SPYDER F3-S STYLING
The wheel arrangement of the Can-Am Spyder F3-S gives it a stylish look. The front resembles a mini-car and from the back, looks like a cruiser. The lower seat adjustment, laid-back riding position, and backward handlebars give the Can-Am Spyder F3-S comfortable cruiser ergonomics. The styling of the Can-Am Spyder F3-S can be improved or changed by fitting the bike with aftermarket parts.
2.2 CAN-AM SPYDER F3-S ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
The Can-Am Spyder F3-S is powered by a 1,330 cc liquid-cooled engine. The engine is able to produce a torque of 130.1 Nm at 5,000 rpm and a horsepower of 115 hp at 7,250 rpm. With such powerful specs, the Spyder F3-S is capable of good acceleration. However, there are various safety systems installed that limit the Spyder F3-S’s high-speed capabilities. This limitation is intentional to help improve the safety of the rider. The advanced anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronically-controlled power steering system, vehicle stability system, and traction control system also contribute to the Spyder F3-S’s safety features.
The Can-Am Spyder F3-S is not designed to travel at high speed due to the structure and advanced safety systems installed.
The advanced stability control system and power steering system prevent the Spyder F3-S from drifting even if the rider jerks the handle with great force. The throttle will instantaneously be controlled electronically to keep the trike balanced.
The Can-Am Spyder F3-S’s Rotax® engine is designed to reach a maximum mileage of 406 km with a full tank.
2.3 CAN-AM SPYDER F3-S TRANSMISSION
The Spyder F3-S is equipped with semi-automatic and six-gear manual transmissions. Both of the transmissions on the Spyder F3-S have a reverse function. For the semi-automatic transmission, the paddle shifter is used to change between gears.

The Spyder F3-S comes with an advanced braking system. Brembo, the world leading brand in manufacturing braking technology, designed the braking system for the Can-Am Spyder F3-S. The 270 mm discs with four-piston fixed calipers in the front and a 270 mm single disc brake with a one-piston floating caliper in the rear give the Spyder F3-S reliable stopping power.
2.5 CAN-AM SPYDER F3-S FEATURES
Along with the high-performance ABS and vehicle stability system to make this motorcycle safer, the Spyder F3-S is equipped with a UFit system as well. The UFit system is customizable as there are different kinds of handlebars and positions for the pegs.
With the advanced anti-theft system, the Spyder F3-S will not start unless the rider enters in a unique code.
