Suzuki Boulevard SaddleBag Guide
The Suzuki Boulevard is a classic machine that itches to eat up miles and needs to be part of the open road. Originally introduced in 2005, the Boulevard has provided the foundation for which all other Suzuki cruiser motorcycles have followed. The source model Boulevard has led to a wide variety of custom and special edition models all falling under the Boulevard umbrella. These bikes are fast, reliable and nasty cruisers that look good out front of the local watering hole or eating up the asphalt down a scenic back road. Few other production motorcycles can boast the numerous sub models that the Boulevard counts as part of its legacy and Suzuki continues to set the bar with these cruisers.
Viking Bags have embraced the multitude of styles that Suzuki offers in their Boulevard lineup and we offer as many diverse options that Suzuki owners get from their Boulevard. We understand that with all those customization options, Boulevard owners need a bag company that has their needs in mind. The Boulevard is a motorcyclist’s dream and our bags are the perfect accessory for every rider’s individual storage needs. A bike this good and this fun to ride is going to need some serious storage options for all that time you are out on the road.
Viking Bags feel it’s important for our customers to understand 4 factors in choosing the right bag.
1. STYLE 2. CAPACITY 3. MOUNTING 4. SECURITY
Are you the type of rider who likes people to stop and notice your ride? Do you like the classic look of studded bags or do you like a less flashy look? Do you like your bags to have classic buckles? Do you want options for how the bags open and whether or not they lock? Would you prefer your bags to fit snugly around the shock or on top?
Is a week’s worth of gear never enough? Are you a daily commuter and need space for your necessities?
Our bags come with the option to be locked or not and our locking bags come with our own Viking Bags key, which we designed in house.
Do you want your bags to easily removable or do you want a more permanent solution?
Bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The majority of our bags come in two styles, plain or studded. If your bike already has studs, you can keep the theme going by adding a pair of Studded Saddlebags. All Viking Bags studs are rust proof, polished, and stainless steel. Non-studded or Plain bags are very clean themselves and can keep the clean look throughout.
Plain VS. Studded
Suzuki Boulevard bags come either studded or plain faced. At Viking Bags we understand the multitude of options that Boulevard owners are presented with and we support your ability to get the look you want. The Volusia and Dynamite models will fit your Boulevard and add stylish storage to help take the bike where it belongs, the road. Viking Bags understand that you like the sleek, clean lines and our bags have the option of a shock cut out for that snug, custom fit.
Viking Bags for the Boulevard offer you two options from which to choose:Studded or Plain. Boulevard has such a classic cruiser feel that our studded bags will not only compliment the bike but add to its classic styling. Our rustproof, polished, stainless steel studs will give you the combination of storage and good looks that screams motorcycle. If studs do not fit the more modern look of your Boulevard, we offer a variety of plain bags with tasteful chrome buckles. For those of you who don’t want to see any chrome, our Warrior bags will be the perfect storage option for your bike.
BUCKLE VS. NO BUCKLE
The Boulevard has quickly become a true motorcyclists ride and we understand that some of our owners want a no nonsense storage option without all the added flair. Our Ultimate and Warrior bag lines give you all the storage options but with a raw, stripped down look and feel. These two bag models come without any shine or studs. With all these choices to add storage and style to your Boulevard, we offer a final option of a plain back or our shock cut out option.
STANDARD BAGS VS. SHOCK CUT OUT BAGS
Our standard Boulevard bags are the easiest on the wallet and are typically mounted between the rear shock and rear turn signals. If you need a greater storage capacity and decide on a larger sized bag, it might be necessary to utilize a kit to relocate your rear turn signals. Our Quick Disconnect System is the perfect option for the Boulevard owner because it mounts the bags to the outside of the shock. Customers who utilize our QDS system would not need the Shock Cut Out option available on our bags.
Our Shock Cut Out bags are custom molded to fit neatly around the perimeter of the shock. This keeps the bags tighter to the fender, helping to keep intact the custom and sleek lines that the Boulevard offers. The Shock Cut Out feature is more expensive but the look you will achieve is well worth the added cost. With the streamlined look there is a small sacrifice in storage but we have a wide variety of storage capacity options to best fit your stylistic and storage needs.
Hard VS. Soft
We also offer bags that are completely blacked out without any buckle. Take a look at our Warrior and Spear bags. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs.
Viking Bags is the world’s largest saddlebag manufacturer and because of that, we are the best company to offer the variety you need. We have over 200 styles of saddlebags to fit all storage needs no matter how large or small. We understand that our large selection might be difficult for our consumers, so in anticipation of this hurdle, we have designed our website to make your shopping experience as easy as possible. The left hand side of our page offers you the ability to filter out the bags you don’t need to find that perfect fit for your Boulevard.
Boulevard owners love to vaporize the super slab we know that with all those miles comes the need for security. At Viking Bags we are riders first and we offer two separate options to lock our bags. Option 1 locks the bags under the buckles and option 2 locks from the top. Most of our bags have the ability to add a padlock for added security. The QDS system is not only convenient but a great option for security. Simply take the bags off the bike and store them securely inside when at home or on the road. We do understand that our non locking bags might be within your budget and storage needs; therefore, we do recommend that you not leave any valuables in the non locking bags overnight.
Now that you have decided which bag will fit your bike better the next step is to choose the right mounting hardware.
There are 3 types of mounting hardware’s available to you and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
1- Quick Disconnect System (QDS)
2- Hard Mount Kit
3- Throw Over Kit
At Viking Bags we recommend that any customer utilizing the Quick Disconnect System purchase the plain backed bags instead of the Shock Cut Out models. This system moves the bags outside the bike an extra 2 inches which basically eliminates any need to contour around the shocks. This system is the ideal companion for those riders who find themselves on the road often and who need the added security of being able to bring the bags inside with them for the evening. Not only will you get added security with our QDS system, the bags are easily removed for all cleaning and maintenance needs. A final benefit of this system is being able to quickly remove the bags altogether for shorter trips or where bags are not needed.
All Viking Bags come standard with our Hard Mount Kit for a permanent mounting option. This kit is our sturdiest option and the most durable of all the Viking Bags mounting options. While you might lose some of the convenience found in the QDS system, you make up in the peace of mind that your bags are there to stay. However, with the bags unlocked, the Hard Mount Kit is easily detached in minutes with the removal of two mounting bolts on each side.
The most classic design in saddlebags over the years has been the throw over bags. Throw over bags are the least secure but the easiest to use. At Viking Bags, we utilize a simple yoke mounted underneath the seat connecting the two bags together. The bags are very easy to strap to hardware that mounts to each fender and secured into place. The Throw Over option is ideal for Boulevard owners who only need temporary storage or who have issues with our more permanent fitment options. The Throw Over kit is only available on our smaller bags which are not in need of a stiffer mount.
