Triumph America Motorcycle Saddlebag Guide
Triumph Motorcycles dates back to 1885 in England. Triumph originally started as a motorcycle import/export company and eventually turned into Triumph Engineering Co Ltd but the naming rights and company were sold back in 1983 and thus creating what is currently known as Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. Since Triumph’s creation, they have been a pioneer in the motorcycle world. Their commitment to designing & developing motorcycles that are distinct to others is second to none. Viking Bags has been a fan of Triumph motorcycles for many years and we have even made some bags that are specific to all of their models, including the Triumph America.
Such beautiful motorcycles are meant to be ridden. We’ve come up with several different bags to fit the demand of most riders; commuters, weekend warriors, and the adventurers. Depending on what your needs are Viking Bags has the bag for you.
By Understanding the following 4 factors we believe you can make a much better buying decision when buying a saddlebags for your Triumph America.
Are you looking for studded or plain look? With or without buckles? Do you want the bags to open towards the bike or towards the front? Do you want them to go over the shock or behind the shock?
What kind of riding do you typically do? How much gear will you need to be carrying on any given ride?
Locking or non-locking. Our locking bags are secure and convenient to open with personal key, a Viking Bags innovation!
Are you looking for a bag that will always be on the bike via a hard mount of quick release. Maybe a set of bags that can be quickly thrown over your bike?
Bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The majority of our bags come in two styles, plain or studded. If your bike already has studs, you can keep the theme going by adding a pair of Studded Saddlebags. All Viking Bags studs are rust proof, polished, and stainless steel. Non-studded or Plain bags are very clean themselves and can keep the clean look throughout.
Plain VS. Studded
Triumph America bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The best fitting bags for your Triumph America will be the America model specific bags. These bags are already designed with style and capacity in mind. In addition, the bag also includes a shock cut out for a perfect fit.
Most of our bags come in two different varieties, Studded or Plain. Traditionally, bikers who have studs on their seats and back rest choose the studded option, though it may not always be the case. The rust proof, polished, and stainless steel studs add a little flair to the bags. On the other hand, our plain bags are very clean and have chrome buckles that can really make your bags stand out. For those that want a completely blacked out look the warrior and spear bags give you the options of a bag that has no buckles or studs for the rider who doesn’t want to draw any unwanted attention. Our bags also differ in the backside, some have the shock cut out and others don’t.
BUCKLE VS. NO BUCKLE
We offer bags that have two more looks as well. We have the standard buckled bags that have a stainless steel buckle along with bags that have no bling whatsoever. If you’re looking to keep that classic look, we recommend the buckle for you. For example, take a look at our Quarter Circle Saddlebag. On the other hand, if you’re looking to keep that clean and minimalistic look, the no buckle option is best for you.
STANDARD BAGS VS. SHOCK CUT OUT BAGS
Our standard bags for the America will save you a little on price in most cases and are typically mounted behind the shock and in front of the turn signals. Because the size of the bigger bags may extend a little farther back, a turn signal relocation kit may be necessary. These bags are also the ideal choice for a customer using the quick disconnect system as it will extend the bags just outside of the shock rendering the shock cut out bags ineffective.
Hard VS. Soft
We also offer bags that are completely blacked out without any buckle. Take a look at our Warrior and Spear bags. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs.
At Viking Bags we carry over 200 styles and sizes of saddlebags alone making us the largest saddlebags manufacturers in the whole world. Our bags are available in various sizes, from small to extra-large. With such a large variety of saddlebags available it might be a little time consuming and confusing to filter out the unwanted sizes. Viking Bags has made it very easy for you to narrow down your search by creating a filter which is located on the left hand side of the saddlebags page.
Security is based on the individual and areas they reside or travel to. Having a locking bag is ideal for multiple reasons but more importantly because you never know when someone might try to get into your bags. We have two different locks available, one type is on the top of the bag and the other is under the buckle. The majority of our bags also have a spot to pad lock the bags for additional security. Adding the QDS system is also a good way to prevent theft at home, allowing you to bring the bags inside the house with you. On the other hand, we also sell non-locking bags. The main advantage to a non-locking bag is their price as they will save you money upfront. We recommend not leaving anything of value inside the bags over night.
How do you want your saddlebags to be attached to your bike? This isn’t just a technical consideration: having quick release bags means you can park, take the bags off the bike and get moving. Having hard mounted bags means your bags are hard to get off – by accident or on purpose. Think about what you want your bags for on a regular basis and which of our designs you could take advantage of.
1- Quick Disconnect System (QDS)
2- Hard Mount Kit
3- Throw Over Kit
The quick disconnect system should typically only be used with standard plain back bags. The QDS pushes the bags roughly 2 inches out and can cause the shock cut out bag to lose its closeness to the shock, rendering the cut out useless. The QDS is ideal for the rider who tends to travel a lot and would like to bring the bags in with them whether on the road or at home. Furthermore, the QDS also makes it easy to remove the bags before cleaning the bike or getting maintenance done, preventing your bags from getting damaged while your bike is getting washed or worked on. At only, $114.99 the QDS makes things a lot easier if you prefer to take the bags off while riding on shorter trips.
The hard mount kit is more of a permanent mount that incorporates uprights and cross members to make a reinforced frame on the back of the bag. This kit is a very sturdy way to mount your bags but once they are mounted, they are not as easily removable as with the QDS. If the bags are locked it will be harder to get them off, thankfully there are only two bolts on each side that you’ll need to remove if you want to remove them yourself. This hard mount kit comes included, free or charge, with all of our bags.
Throw over bags are a traditional style where the bag is mounted under the seat using a yoke that connects both the bags together. Once the hardware is mounted to your fender, the bag is strapped to the hardware and held in place. The throw over kit is a temporary install though, this is best used for people who rarely will have the bags on or have an issue with fitment. The throw over option is only available on certain smaller bags since the bigger bags need to have a more rigid mount.
