Indian Chieftain Motorcycle SaddleBag Guide

Indian Chieftain Motorcycle SaddleBag Guide

Indian Motorcycles have a deep history with classic, sculpted bikes, and the Chieftain is no exception. With a near perfect marriage of modern technology and classic Indian styling, the Chieftain is the first Indian Motorcycle ever with hard fairing and unprecedented comfort and convenience features. Newer models of the Chieftain offer the new Thunder Stroke 111 engine with an incredible 119 ft-lbs of torque, secure, convenient keyless entry, and inch-to-inch chrome surfacing. This bike is also highly customizable, offering owners the opportunity to style their bike to suit their own classic style. A degree of refinement is clearly represented in this bike in ride, handling, and delivery, and of course, we can’t forget that iconic Indian script and War Bonnet Lighting that hallmarks this historic brand.

With a bike that exerts such classic, historical style, you’ll be able to find saddlebags that will provide the perfect style and storage options to get you out on the road.

Before you begin looking for that perfect bag, there are four crucial dynamics Viking Bags wants you to keep in mind:

1. STYLE 2. CAPACITY  3. MOUNTING  4. SECURITY

Style

Do you want bags that offer some flash? Or do you prefer understated style that complements a classic aesthetic? Would you like buckles, studs or just a plain, sleek look to your bags? Would you like options as to how your bags open?

Capacity

Do you need enough storage for long rides or a little less to store gear for work as part of your commute? Depending on the length of your trip, do you need more or less storage?

Security

Do you need to lock you bags? Or do you simply need a bag to close securely? Viking Bags are easily secured with our own innovative Viking Bags key, a security measure unique to only our bag systems.

Mounting

Are you look for a permanent mount or a less permanent option? Would you like the option of easily removing and storing your bags?

STYLE

Bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The majority of our bags come in two styles, plain or studded. If your bike already has studs, you can keep the theme going by adding a pair of Studded Saddlebags. All Viking Bags studs are rust proof, polished, and stainless steel. Non-studded or Plain bags are very clean themselves and can keep the clean look throughout.

Plain VS. Studded

When you’re looking for the perfect bag to complement your bike, Viking Bags offers two distinct styles. If you’re looking for flare, our studded bags, made with rustproof, polished stainless steel, will get heads turning. You also won’t have to worry about rusting or tarnishing these top-quality studs even in the harshest of weather. If studs aren’t your thing, however, you’ll love our plain-faced bags with tasteful chrome buckles. They offer the perfect amount of style without unnecessary flash. And if studs or chrome don’t work for you, take a look at our Warrior and Prima models—they’re made with only our sleek and durable VIKING Leather.

BUCKLE VS. NO BUCKLE

If you want an unembellished bag, the Warrior and Prima models, like we mentioned above, offer security and storage without unnecessary pizzazz. These bags are perfect for the understated rider who knows practicality can triumph over flash.

STANDARD BAGS VS. SHOCK CUT OUT BAGS

The standard bags offered for you Marauder are our most cost effective options and are mounted behind the rear shocks and in front of the rear turn signals. If you decide that you need more storage space available through one of our larger bags, it might be necessary to utilize a turn signal relocation kit. We also offer a Shock Cut Out option for customers who want their bags to fit a little more snugly to their bike.

Our Shock Cut Out bags have a custom mold at the front of the bags that fits around the shock. This option keeps the bags mounted closer to the fender than with the straight backed bags. This option is a little more expensive but the way that the bags would hug the lines of your Marauder would be well worth the extra money. This look does sacrifice a small amount of storage space but our wide variety of bag options allows you to choose the right capacity and fit for your Marauder.

We also offer bags that are completely blacked out without any buckle. Take a look at our Warrior and Spear bags. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs.

CAPACITY

Viking Bags has over 200 style and storage options—in fact, we’re the largest saddlebag manufacturer in the world—and with so many options, we understand that it can seem a little overwhelming. We’ve remedied this issue with an easy to use search filter to help you find the perfect bag to fit your capacity needs. Our bags range in size from small to extra large, and with so many options (studs, buckles, plain, etc.), we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find your perfect bag. The search filter on the navigation bar to the left side of our website allows you to select and deselect the options you are (and aren’t) looking for.

SECURITY

Viking Bags knows that security is extremely important, and we’ve designed our bags with this factor in mind. Not only do our bags use a key system unique to Viking Bags only, we have two specific locking options. In our first option, bags can be locked from the top. In our second, bags can be locked discretely under the buckles. You can even supplement your security with padlocks. The QDS system can add security as well by allowing you to take the bags off your bike and bring them inside.

We also offer non-locking bags if security isn’t important to you. Just keep in mind that if you do choose this option, please don’t leave any valuable items in our non-locking bags overnight.

QUICK DISCONNECT

When you’re ready to mount your bags, we offer several options ranging from permanent to detachable. The Quick Disconnect System (QDS) is one our most convenient. This secure mounting system allows owners the ability to remove bags and take them inside as added security. Being easily detachable also makes cleaning, maintenance and storage a breeze.

HARD MOUNT

If you’d prefer a more permanent mounting option, the Hard Mount kit is a perfect for securely mounting your bags. It’s also included as our standard mounting kit with all Viking Bag purchases. With this kit, you’ll get the strongest mounting option—it attaches with two bolts on each side of the mount. You still have the ability to remove bags for cleaning, maintenance and storage, but you can rest easy knowing your bags are stable and secure on your bike.

THROW OVER

If you’d like something more in-between permanent and completely detachable, look no further. Our Throw Over kit allows riders to throw bags over the fender when they’re needed and still easily remove when they’re not. Utilizing a simple yoke system, the Throw Over kit attaches under the seat and secures to the temporary frame. This is an ideal system for Chieftain owners who have fitment issues. It’s also fairly cost effective. Keep in mind, however, that this particular mounting system is only available for our smaller capacity bags since they don’t need a more solid mount.
