Indian Chief Vintage Motorcycle Luggage Guide
The Indian Chief Vintage is where style meets swagger. This bike’s iconic style is reminiscent of Indian’s Vintage sculpted style but with the new powerful Thunder Stroke 111 engine with 119 ft-lbs of torque and keyless entry. Despite its modern technological advances however, the Chief Vintage motorcycle stills manages to combine modernity with traditional style: Beach Bar Handlebars enhance the Vintage style while being ergonomic, and the iconic valanced fenders, standard since 1940, also amplify the elegant styling lines, common of every Indian Motorcycle. Finally, the Chief Vintage instrumentation, a beautiful combination of modern and traditional, is mounted to the tank with a “large, easy-to-read analog speedometer as well as a digital screen that provides a wealth of valuable ride and fuel data.” Of course, we can’t forget that iconic Indian script and War Bonnet Lighting that hallmarks this historic brand.
Viking Bags has the perfect style and storage options to get you and your Indian Chief Vintage out on the road where you belong.
There are four crucial dynamics involved in purchasing the perfect bag for your bike, so keep these questions in mind as you search our many options:
1. STYLE 2. CAPACITY 3. MOUNTING 4. SECURITY
Are you looking for a flashy ride that turns people’s heads or the Vintage aesthetic of a cruiser? Do you want to complement the historic look of the Indian Chief Vintage or start a new trend? Would you like buckles, studs or just more plain, sleek look? Would you like options as to how your bags open?
Do you need enough storage for long rides or a little less to store gear for work as part of your commute? Depending on the length of your trip, do you need more or less storage?
What kind of security do you need: locking bags or just a closing mechanism? Viking Bags are easily secured with our own innovative Viking Bags key, a security measure unique to only our bag systems.
How do you plan on mounting your bags? Are you look for a permanent mount or a less permanent option? Would you like the option of easily removing and storing your bags?
Bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The majority of our bags come in two styles, plain or studded. If your bike already has studs, you can keep the theme going by adding a pair of Studded Saddlebags. All Viking Bags studs are rust proof, polished, and stainless steel. Non-studded or Plain bags are very clean themselves and can keep the clean look throughout.
Plain VS. Studded
Viking Bags provides Chief Vintage riders with studded and plain bags, so you have the option of choosing a style that will complement your bike in a straightforward, streamlined fashion or with a little flare and flash.
Here at Viking Bags, we have two distinct styles of saddlebags that are designed to offer flare and pizzazz or straightforward, sleek styling. For those who want to turn heads, our studded bags come with rustproof, polished stainless steel. You won’t have to worry about rusting or tarnishing these top-quality studs. For a more sleek, understated look, our plain-faced bags are perfect. These bags come with tasteful chrome buckle enclosures. And if studs and chrome don’t work for you, check out our Warrior and Primamodel bags—they’re made with hard-wearing durable VIKING Leather and nothing else.
BUCKLE VS. NO BUCKLE
Our Warrior and Prima models, as mentioned above, offer security and storage without unnecessary flash. We know that sometimes less is more and Viking Bags understands that this unembellished option will work perfectly for the understated rider.
STANDARD BAGS VS. SHOCK CUT OUT BAGS
The standard bags offered for you Marauder are our most cost effective options and are mounted behind the rear shocks and in front of the rear turn signals. If you decide that you need more storage space available through one of our larger bags, it might be necessary to utilize a turn signal relocation kit. We also offer a Shock Cut Out option for customers who want their bags to fit a little more snugly to their bike.
Our Shock Cut Out bags have a custom mold at the front of the bags that fits around the shock. This option keeps the bags mounted closer to the fender than with the straight backed bags. This option is a little more expensive but the way that the bags would hug the lines of your Marauder would be well worth the extra money. This look does sacrifice a small amount of storage space but our wide variety of bag options allows you to choose the right capacity and fit for your Marauder.
Hard VS. Soft
We also offer bags that are completely blacked out without any buckle. Take a look at our Warrior and Spear bags. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs.
As the largest saddlebag manufacturer in the world, Viking Bags understands that having so many options can be overwhelming (we actually have over 200!). We offer an easy to use search filter that helps customers find bags that fit their capacity needs—our bags range from small to extra large, and with all those options (studs or not studs, buckle or no buckle), we want you to find your perfect bag. You can use the search filter to select and deselect the options you’re looking for by using the navigation bar on the left side of our website.
And lastly, Viking Bags understands that security is a very important factor when looking for the perfect saddlebag to complement your bike, so we keep that factor in mind when we design our bags. We offer two distinct locking options to provide you with confident security: Option one allows owners to lock the bags from the top; Option two allows for the bags to be locked discretely under the buckles. Padlocks can even be used on most of our bags for added security. You might also consider the QDS system as your mounting option because you can get some supplemental security by being able to take the bags inside as well.
If security isn’t that important to you, we also offer non-locking bags, still with the same style and storage you need. Just keep in mind that if you choose this option, you don’t want to leave any valuable items in our non-locking bags overnight.
1- Quick Disconnect System (QDS)
2- Hard Mount Kit
3- Throw Over Kit
Remember that earlier question about how you might want to mount your bags? One of the best, most convenient options is our Quick Disconnect System (QDS). With this secure mounting system, you have the added security of being able to remove the bags and take them inside with you at the end of a trip. You also have the added benefit of an easily detachable system that allows you to remove bags for cleaning and maintenance. Being able to take your bags inside is also great for long-term storage when bags aren’t needed.
For a more permanent option, Viking Bags offers the Hard Mount kit, which is included as our standard mounting kit with all Viking Bag purchases. This system is the strongest mounting option—it attaches with two bolts on each side of the mount, offering a stable and secure but easily removable bag system. Although the mount is permanent, the bags are still easily detachable so you can clean, maintain, or even store your bags for the long-term.
Our Throw Over kit offers riders something more in-between permanent and completely detachable. With this system, riders can throw their bags over the fender when they’re needed and easily remove them to take inside when they’re not. The kit uses a simple yoke system that attaches under the seat and secures to the temporary frame. You might also find this system to be more cost effective and helpful if you have fitment issues with your bike. This mounting system, however, is only available for smaller capacity bags since they just don’t need a more solid mount.
