Chief Classic Motorcycle Saddlebag Guide
Introduced by Victory in 2003, the Vegas, designed by Michael Song, is known for its distinctively bold styling and iconic raised spine. The laid-back style cruiser has been one of the most historic and enduring symbols of Victory’s signature styling scheme. Back then, the first model of the Vegas sported a 92 cubic inch engine and a 5-speed transmission. Performance-wise, the cruiser has never disappointed users, but the styling has remained the true highlight since its release. The Vegas lineup has seen several redesigns over the years, but the defiant and dynamic look has remained a constant with each subsequent iteration of the cruiser. The Vegas’ ground-breaking design makes it a delight for users to strut down the streets while being followed by wistful gazes from bystanders!
The enduring style and iconic design of the Vegas ensures owner loyalty; not wanting to make a switch as the miles keep increasing. We, at Viking Bags, understand the reasons behind such loyalty and bring to you a wide array of saddlebags in various styles and options for your classic machine. Premium saddlebags add a certain elegance to any machine, while providing immense functionality with style. Whether you intend to hang a bag that is bound to turn heads, or just want a no-frills storage option for your motorcycle, our astounding array of options includes all.
When choosing bags for your Vegas, one should keep in mind 4 critical criteria in mind to make certain the choice is appropriate.
1. STYLE 2. CAPACITY 3. MOUNTING 4. SECURITY
Are you looking for a flashy ride that turns people’s heads or the classic aesthetic of a cruiser? Do you want to complement the historic look of the Indian Chief Classic or start a new trend? Would you like buckles, studs or just more plain, sleek look? Would you like options as to how your bags open?
Do you need enough storage for long rides or a little less to store gear for work as part of your commute? Depending on the length of your trip, do you need more or less storage?
What kind of security do you need: locking bags or just a closing mechanism? Viking Bags are easily secured with our own innovative Viking Bags key, a security measure unique to only our bag systems.
Bags come in a variety of different styles. Most riders will want the bags that will match best with their bike. The majority of our bags come in two styles, plain or studded. If your bike already has studs, you can keep the theme going by adding a pair of Studded Saddlebags. All Viking Bags studs are rust proof, polished, and stainless steel. Non-studded or Plain bags are very clean themselves and can keep the clean look throughout.
Plain VS. Studded
Viking Bags provides Chief Classic riders with studded and plain bags, so you have the option of choosing a style that will complement your bike in a straightforward, streamlined fashion or with a little flare and flash.
Our studded bags come with rustproof, polished stainless steel, which is great for rides even in the harshest of weather and studs are ideal if a more traditional cruiser look is your goal. If studs aren’t your thing, however, we also offer plain-faced bags that come with chrome buckle enclosures. This style works well with a more understated aesthetic. To go even further understated, you might also like our basic black bags with no chrome at all—check out our Warrior and Prima models.
BUCKLE VS. NO BUCKLE
Sometimes riders want bags without the shine or flash—Viking Bags has you covered with our Warrior and Prima models as mentioned above. These styles offer security and storage while maintaining a no-nonsense style.
STANDARD BAGS VS. SHOCK CUT OUT BAGS
The standard bags offered for you Marauder are our most cost effective options and are mounted behind the rear shocks and in front of the rear turn signals. If you decide that you need more storage space available through one of our larger bags, it might be necessary to utilize a turn signal relocation kit. We also offer a Shock Cut Out option for customers who want their bags to fit a little more snugly to their bike.
Our Shock Cut Out bags have a custom mold at the front of the bags that fits around the shock. This option keeps the bags mounted closer to the fender than with the straight backed bags. This option is a little more expensive but the way that the bags would hug the lines of your Marauder would be well worth the extra money. This look does sacrifice a small amount of storage space but our wide variety of bag options allows you to choose the right capacity and fit for your Marauder.
Hard VS. Soft
We also offer bags that are completely blacked out without any buckle. Take a look at our Warrior and Spear bags. They are two options for bags that have no shiny buckles or studs.
With Viking Bags being the largest manufacturer of saddlebags in the world (over 200 options), we know that we can offer you the best choice when it comes to style and storage. We have bags ranging in size from small to extra-large. With all that choice, we know it can seem overwhelming, so we have an easy to use search filter that filters our bags in terms of price, size, and style. You simply need to select and deselect the options you’re looking for (or not looking for) on the navigation bar on the left side of our website.
Finally, we understand that security is very important to you. No matter what style you choose, Viking Bags has your security needs at heart and we have two distinct locking options to provide you with the security that works best for you. The first option allows owners to lock the bags from the top whereas with the second option, the bags can be locked discretely under the buckles. You can even padlock most of our bags for added security. Depending on the mounting option you choose, the QDS system can offer some supplemental security too by allowing the owner to detach the bags and take them inside.
You can also use our non-locking bags if security isn’t as important to you. We do recommend, however, that you not keep any valuable items in non-locking bags overnight if you choose this option.
1- Quick Disconnect System (QDS)
2- Hard Mount Kit
3- Throw Over Kit
When it comes to mounting your bags, one of the best options we offer is the Quick Disconnect System (QDS). If you want a secure mounting option that allows you the added security of taking your bags inside with you at the end of a trip, the QDS is perfect. Not only is it convenient in regards to security, the easily detachable system allows you to quickly detach the bags to clean and maintain them. You can also remove bags for long-term storage if needed.
If you’d like a more permanent option, the Hard Mount kit, included as our standard mounting kit with all Viking Bag purchases, offers the strongest mounting option. Attached with two bolts on each side of the mount, the Hard Mount kit is stable and secure but still easily removable so that bags can be removed for cleaning, maintenance and storage.
You might prefer something in-between permanent and detachable—if that’s the case, the Throw Over kit is for you. This kit allows riders to throw the bags over the fender when they’re needed and easily take them inside when they’re not. This particular kit utilizes a simple yoke system that attaches under the seat and secures to the temporary frame. It’s also very cost effective and helpful for Chief Classic owners with fitment issues. Note that this mounting system is only available for smaller capacity bags since they don’t need a more solid mount.
